Extended Family Photos

If you're reading this then chances are you are looking for information about how to book in an extended family shoot and I'm happy to say that I can give you those answers.
I don't need to tell you how wonderful and special it is to document bonds shared across generations, so instead I've listed a few points to help you decide when the best time might be to book your photos and some things to consider.

The perfect occasion
Life gets busy and it can be so hard to get all of the family together in one place, at one time. So why not take advantage of special birthdays, wedding anniversaries, or family reunions and also use this time to book in an extended family photo session!
To make sure you get the photographer that you want, I recommend booking them as soon as you can since you might not have much wriggle room in terms of dates. If left too late, your photographer might already be booked out and then you'll be left to find someone else.
There is no right or wrong time to book in a family photo shoot so here are some ideas for when you might want to book in a session:
- grandparents wedding anniversary
- Christmas holidays
- secret proposal (and you want everyone there)
- Great grandparent birthday
- family holiday
You might also find out that a loved one is terminally ill and while it can be an emotional time, getting everyone together to celebrate the love and connection between everyone can be a very powerful and healing thing to do, especially when that person has passed.
A fun, stress free experience
I understand the thought of organising so many people to all be at the same place and time is enough to make you want to say no before you've even begun but I promise I will be there to help in any way that I can.
I encourage playful interactions and let the kids take the lead (that includes the big kids too) making sure everyone is comfortable and involved.
You'll never feel like you’re posing for hours, instead, the session will feel like a normal gathering of your family, just with me there to capture the magic.
With a mix of good banter and laughter, I'll photograph your family in a way that when you look back at your photos, you'll feel like it was any other family event.
Photos that tell your family's story
A few years from now, these photos will become part of your family's story.
I won't force you to pose or interact in a way that's not natural to who you are.
If your not a touchy family then I won't make you all hug and cuddle close, if your not a funny banter kinda family then I won't encourage the banter and if your not a laugh out loud kinda family, well... too bad because all my sessions end in having a good laugh so I can't help you out there 😂
All I will do is encourage you to interact with each other in what ever way feels natural so you get the best photos possible!
How to book your extended family session
Whether you live on the Gold Coast or nearby, I offer outdoor sessions that are not only beautiful but also laid-back and fun.
Let me take the pressure off, and together we’ll create images that celebrate your family’s unique bond.
All you have to do is send me an enquiry and let me know the date you are wanting along with how many people will be included and I'll do the rest.
Just remember, the more notice you can give the higher chances are that I can lock in your preferred date.
It's a cheaper way to book family photos
Why is it cheaper?
Because if you have 4 seperate family groups coming together then in most cases the cost is being split 4 ways (or how ever many family groups you have)
As extended family sessions cover a different number of people each time, please reach out for a quote. Make sure you include the total number of people attending including children.
Group shots
While the main point of extended family photos is to get everyone together, there will be time for each family group to have their time in the spotlight.
Different variations include(just to name a few):
- parents and their adult kids
- parents and their grand children
- each family group
- little kids only
Treat yourself afterwards
If little kids are involved then chances are you might need to bribe them to make sure those beautiful smiles and listening ears are in full swing so why not take everyone out for dinner or maybe get an ice cream!
