There are different types of newborn photo session but an In-home session is definitely my favourite. It shows the real you in a space you have created to raise your family. You may not have expensive furniture or a mansion sized house but it is special to you and that's all that matters.
When your children look back on these photos, you want them to feel a sense of belonging. And when you look back on them, you'll feel a rush of emotion and remember a time that went by so quickly.
So below are my 4 reasons to why you NEED an in-home newborn session!
Everything You Need is Right There
Newborn sessions can take as long as 90 minutes depending on how baby is feeling and of course including time spent feeding and nappy changes.
When I was a new mum, I had not mastered the skills of feeding without milk going everywhere and inevitably a nipple popping out too. And not to mention ALL.THE. THINGS that you need to take with you when leaving the house. It's just a lot to deal with when you're a sleep deprived parent.
But when your home, everything you need is right there when you need it.
We Can Capture You Cosy and Relaxed
The newborn stage is a slow paced, cosy and intimate time. Naturally your home is a place where you cuddle up to your family as compared to being outside in a public place.
You have total privacy and you're in your own space. Whether you like to lay on the couch cuddling or dancing around the living room, it's completely relaxed and completely you. And if you also have other children, they tend to feel more secure being around their things.
Your wardrobe can also be more low key at home. I've had sessions where clients are barefoot in jeans and a t-shirt. And the best part, it looks totally natural and relaxed.
We Can Include Your Home Decor and Nursery
Did you get swept up in the nesting stage spending hours and $$ on perfecting the look of your sweet baby's nursery? I know I did! So why not include this space in your session so when your children are having their own, they might like to look back and see the beautiful cosy space you created for them.
Your home will go through many, many changes over your life time and I promise this stage of your life will be one you wished you captured. This can include name signs, baby in the cot or bassinet, a special toy or special gift.
It's Easy to Include Pets and Family Heirlooms
Newborn photos at home also makes it easy to include your fur baby in the photos. I love this because let's facing it, they are our "first" child. Including pets is much more manageable in the confined space of your home and I also love to sneak a pat and cuddle in too.
Heirlooms and other meaningful items are safer in your home than taking them into a public area. This could include a blanket that has been passed down generations, or perhaps a bracelet or toy which holds a special meaning.
What ever it is you can rest easy knowing it wont get damaged being somewhere that it shouldn't be. And of course makes for a sentimental images that you can gift to your grandparents.
