Let’s be real.... life with kids is busy. Between the endless snack requests, piles of laundry, keeping everyone alive and (mostly) happy, the thought of inviting a photographer into your home might feel… a little intimidating. But stay with me.
Here’s the thing: your home, exactly as it is right now, is the heart of your family’s story.
It's where your baby took their first wobbly steps. Where the morning cuddles happen. Where your toddler insists on “making dinner” in their toy kitchen while you cook the real one. And that, my friend, is pure magic.
In-home family photos aren’t about perfection. They’re about connection, personality, and real life moments that matter.
Here’s how to make the most of it (and yes, still keep things relaxed and beautiful)
1. Style your space with intention, not pressure.
Your home doesn’t need to be spotless, just thoughtfully prepared. I recommend choosing 1–2 rooms you love spending time in and giving them a quick refresh: fluff the pillows, clear the coffee table, maybe add a fresh throw or a vase of flowers. You’ve already created a beautiful home so let it shine, just as it is.
The little details (the artwork you chose, the cosy light in your living room, the way your toddler always drags their favourite toy into the frame) that’s what makes the images feel like you.
2. Let the kids be playful, but within your rhythm.
There’s no need to force smiles or choreograph behaviour. The most beautiful moments come when your children feel comfortable and themselves, and that includes a bit of energy, laughter, and movement.
So yes to games, snuggles, and silly faces. Yes to twirling in the hallway and jumping on the bed (if that’s something you allow). But also yes to slowing down, reading a book on the couch, or enjoying a quiet cuddle in your favourite chair. Your session will flow with the natural energy of your family while being guided gently, but never forced.
3. Be present in the moment. the magic is already There.
You don’t need to perform, pose, or pretend. The love, connection, and story you’re hoping to capture, already exists. All you have to do is be in it.
Take a breath. Let go of any “we have to get the perfect photo” pressure. Laugh with your kids. Whisper something funny to your partner. Let your guard down, even just a little.
These photos are about you, at home, loving your people in the space you’ve built together and that’s the kind of beauty that lasts.
